How often do you clean your makeup brushes?
“Often, often, girl I do this often….” *The Weeknd voice*
So…how often do you clean your makeup brushes? This is a question up for lots of debate. Weekly? Monthly? Quarterly? Never? For hygienic reasons you should definitely make time to clean your makeup brushes on a regular basis. After all, you would just be spreading your old oil and bacteria back onto your face which could contribute to blemishes and acne.
I know that for me what triggers me to clean my makeup brushes is when I travel. I want all of my beautifying tools to be neat and clean when I’m jet-setting. I usually clean my makeup brushes at least once a month – sometimes twice a month. I also don’t use my makeup brushes everyday; only on the weekends. Take your usage into consideration. If you do use your makeup brushes daily, you should try and clean them on a bi-weekly basis or monthly at the very least.
Makeup brush cleansers can get expensive and sometimes, they’re not all that efficient. Here is a cheap and inexpensive way to clean your makeup brushes!
You only need a few things:
- Dishwashing soap (I like to use orange or apple scented)
- Olive oil to retain the brushes moisture
- Paper towels for drying
See photos below for step-by-step instructions!

Dip makeup brushes/tools in solution. I usually dip in the middle to get a bit of both cleaning agents

Gently rub brush against palm or top of hand and watch all the makeup and dirt come out! It’s a fun process for me everytime. Repeat this step for all makeup brushes.

Gently squeeze all excess water from makeup brushes using paper towels. Lay out on paper towel to dry. I usually let it dry overnight. You can use a blow-dryer to speed up the process.
Hope that was fun and informative for you! How often do you clean your makeup brushes?
